Printing and graphics
- Bleed
- Extra artwork past the trim edge so no white shows after cutting.
- Safe area
- The zone inside the edge where text and logos won’t be cut or hidden.
- CMYK
- The four ink colors used in printing. Files built in RGB are converted.
- Pantone (PMS)
- A numbered color system used to match brand colors.
- Vector
- Artwork made of shapes (AI, EPS, PDF) that stays sharp at any size.
- Raster
- Artwork made of pixels (JPG, PNG, PSD). Quality depends on resolution.
- DPI
- Dots per inch. 150 dpi at full size is plenty for large format.
- Dye-sublimation
- Printing where ink turns into gas and bonds into polyester fabric. Vivid and washable.
- SEG
- Silicone Edge Graphic: fabric with a silicone strip sewn on the edge that presses into a frame.
- Strike-off
- A printed test sample to check color before the full run.
- Proof
- A preview of your final graphic for approval before printing.
Trade shows
- Exhibitor manual
- The show’s rulebook with deadlines, forms, rules and shipping labels.
- General contractor (GSC)
- The company that runs the show floor, freight and rentals, often Freeman or GES.
- Advance warehouse
- Where freight is received weeks before the show and then delivered to your booth.
- Material handling (drayage)
- The fee to move freight from the dock to your booth and back, charged by weight.
- Targeted move-in
- The assigned time when your freight and crew may arrive on the show floor.
- Inline booth
- A booth in a row with neighbors on both sides.
- Peninsula booth
- A booth open on three sides.
- Island booth
- A booth open on all four sides.
- Line of sight
- Height rules that keep neighboring booths visible from the aisle.
- I&D
- Installation and dismantle, the labor to set up and take down a booth.
- Rigging
- Hanging signs or truss from the ceiling, done by show riggers.
Vehicle wraps and LED
- Cast film
- Premium wrap vinyl that conforms to curves and resists shrinking in heat.
- Laminate
- A clear protective layer over printed wrap film.
- Perforated window film
- Printed film with tiny holes, graphics outside, see-through from inside.
- Post-heating
- Heating wrap edges after install so the film stays put.
- Pixel pitch
- The space between LEDs on a video wall; smaller means sharper up close.
